floppy

Speaking of Anne Lamott (and we were), here’s an inspirational quote for your day’s work, on what she calls the “gift of failure”: “…it breaks through all that held breath and isometric tension about needing to look good: it’s the gift of feeling floppier.”

And congratulations to Lisa Yee, whose first YA, Absolutely Maybe, is officially out. If you want some insider info (just between you, me, and the Internet) on the book, check out Lisa’s story of the cover, and also her editor Cheryl Klein’s blog where Cheryl lets you in on the editorial process. (Seriously, this is great stuff if you are getting ready to work with an editor for the first time or are just curious how other editors work.)

I’m sitting at the library pondering revision, and writing an article about revision, and pondering writing about revision while in the act of pondering revision. It’s all very Charlie Kaufman.

Covers almost always make me curious as to how they came about, so that’s a cool post about the cover of Absolutely Maybe! I always want to know about the girls who are on them… sometimes it seems like they’re just stock photos, but hers look like they were from a specific photo shoot or something.

I’m sorry, when I say I know nothing about anything professional in any job in the world, I am telling the truth.

Shauna, you were right! The girl on the cover is a model. She actually had to come in for two separate shoots since the first cover was nixed.

All this thinking and writing about revision should make you an expert in metacognition! I prefer you over C. Kaufman.
