Much to my shock, I’ve lately become one of those people who goes to the gym nearly every day. I don’t know what happened, but I guess it’s true what they say about something becoming a habit after you do it for about six weeks. Fortunately, this time the six-week pattern does not involve the DVR and quarts of Ben & Jerry’s. Today, however, while driving home from Costco and noting that the inversion was breaking up nicely to reveal a sunny blue sky, I decided to take my exercise out of doors. I thought it would be nice to feel the fresh air on my legs so I wore shorts. Well, I felt the air all right. All 37 degrees of it. Half an hour later I could not feel my thighs and they looked like they’d undergone a particularly cruel round of rose garden. (Remember that? Your playground chum says, “Do you want to see a rose garden?” and you say, “Sure,” and then chum proceed to do all sorts of things to turn your forearm red and splotchy? Good times.)
All that is just to say that I need some new and exciting tunes for my gym playlist. What do you like for the gym that I can get on iTunes? My gym mix tends to include things I wouldn’t typically listen to around the house, so don’t leave out the latest pop and hip hop stuff or country for fear I’ll mock your tastes. Well, here, I’ll just post what I have now for my gym mix and you can mock my tastes. And then suggest some stuff to add.

Well, when I attempted my workout regime sometime last year the only song that got me through Billy Blanks and his Tae-Bo workouts was a song by George Michael called..”Amazing” and another fav. pic. called “FREEDOM!!”
Keith Urban’s Somebody Like You ALWAYS gets me moving so it’s the first song on my workout playlist
If you really want to change up styles, I have a couple suggestions. “In These Shoes?” and “New England” by Kirsty MacColl are kind of girl power songs. “Wrapped up in Books” by Bella and Sebastian and “Living Room” by Tegan and Sara have good beats and are funky songs. And you really can’t beat “Cecilia” by Simon and Garfunkle or “Rockin’ Around N.Y.C.” by Marshall Crenshaw to get your blood going.
Even if you don’t like these songs for a workout mix, they’re good to have around just in case. Just in case of what I’m not sure, but you should get them anyway.
What? No Justin Timberlake?! There’s a lot of great workout songs on his SexyBack CD.
Ooh, great playlist for a workout! I needed some new songs for mine, too. I’d add Mary J’s “Be Without You” and Alicia’s “No One” for the cooldown!
Kathyrn – funny, I used to have Living Room on my playlist! I do also like the poor, late Kirsty MacColl but somehow don’t have any of her music.
Melissa – Mary J’s “Without You” is SUCH a good song!
Thanks everyone!
Well, you could try Fences by Paramore. Shimmy Shimmy Quarter Turn by HelloGoodBye. Luv Addict, Peachy and Numb bye Family Force Five.
love this song!!!!!!
