This Creative Life – Episode 6 – Emily Wing Smith
Author Emily Wing Smith was hit by a car when she was 12, and that still affects her writing process today. Sara and Emily chat about writing with physical challenges, and how to deal with the associated discouragement.
Show notes:

Tech notes: There was a problem with the podcast feed that meant only the three most recent episodes were showing up in the feed and therefore iTunes. I’ve fixed the feed, but it will take a few days for it to update with every episode (and my new pretty icon!), so if you’re having trouble finding the first few eps, you can always click the This Creative Life icon on the right hand side of my blog’s page.
For podcast feedback, requests, pitches, etc., you can leave a comment here, or email.
If you like the show, please consider leaving a rating in the iTunes store. And tune in around June 15 for a conversation with Siobhan Vivian, on writing the book we’re afraid we can’t.
Thanks for listening!
This podcast was so great and inspiring as well. I love both yours and Emily’s books and I’m so glad to hear that Emily is doing better and that she’s writing again. I too write by hand first – only because it helps me get words on paper better and then when I type it my first drafts come out fairly clean as well.
Anyway so great to hear from Emily.
I want to try the first-drafting by hand thing sometime. I’ve done individual scenes that way, but never a whole book draft… Thanks for listening and commenting!
What an inspiring interview! I love Emily’s sense of humor with her challenges. I will definitely be getting both of her books from the library ASAP!
She inspires me, too. (And cracks me up.) Thanks for listening and commenting!
Do I have to subscribe on iTunes in order to listen to this?
Hey Kami – I hope you got my email and were able to listen!
Loved this Sara. I didn’t know you had this podcast project going (probably because it has been one darn stressful year and thus I have been very out of the loop). That said, I love it and loved your conversation with Emily. Just what I needed to hear to get myself more focused in writing. Wow. I knew Emily had some physical challenges, but I didn’t realize just what they were and how difficult they are. Thanks so much for this. Emily is great and so are you. Wish I could come over to your house!!!
Sorry about your year! I hate those years. I do hope you make time for your work, because I think your writing is pretty special. come over any time!
