Today’s episode is a video. Because there has been a lot of text this week, and also this seemed best expressed thisaway.
Tomorrow, back to text with the startling conclusion. Did I win the National Book Award? Did I have to get plastic surgery to hide from the paps? Did I buy a mansion? (Hint: the answer to all those questions is the same.)
See you then and, if you want, in honor of L.K. Madigan, write what you are thankful for in the comments, or in your journal, or on twitter or facebook or tumblr or your blog, or somewhere out in the world, today.
Lisa Schroeder and I were just talking about Lisa on Monday. I’ll always remember her because – when I first met her – she asked me about my book, what it was about, etc. When I stumbled for a few seconds (minutes?) she yelled, “WRITER!” It was hilarious.
That said, I’m thankful for perspective.
@Bryan, Thanks for that memory of Lisa. That’s so her. Yeah, I’m thankful for perspective, too.
I read a post or comment you made recently about how difficult second books can be, and how you struggled with Sweethearts. I would just like to say that Sweethearts is my favorite book of yours, and I am thankful that you brought that story into the world.
@Marcy Paul, Oh thank you, yes, me too.
Sara, Thanks for sharing your journey this week! I just read the posts. They are really inspiring (and I can’t believe Michael waited so long to get back to you). I think about Lisa often. I’m thankful to have known her a little bit but wish I’d known her better. I’m also thankful to put 2011 behind me.
@Stephanie Ruble, Me, too!
I’m thankful for your video, and for every writer I’ve miraculously stumbled upon in the past few days who’s been talking about depression. Exactly what I need to hear right now.
Also: my snoring dog, the weird little hummingbird who sits perfectly still in the tree on my porch, pineapple ginger green tea.
@Shanna, Oh, those are good things, yes.
I am thankful for all of the wonderful people in the writing community. The honest people that take the time to share their worries, fears, and triumphs, making me feel like I’m not alone in the world. So thank you for that.
I am thank for the Internet and video cameras and computers that make it possible for me to watch your face, the emotion in your eyes, to feel that we are celebrating books and writers and finding what we need together.
I’ve been following the Story of a Girl posts this week, and found this video particularly moving. Thank you so much for your wonderful books, and for sharing your experiences with us.
A thankful heart is a wonderful thing. Powerful, too, with the ability to change our lives. (imho) I think I’ll do a “Thankful Thursday” blog post, even though I’m a day late. ;)
Thanks so much for the video, and for the music included at the end.
