The only problem with a mental health day is that if you’re suffering from temporary borderline depression, you wake up in the morning and feel you’d like to extend it into a mental health weekend, or perhaps a mental health quarter. Getting up this morning was rough. I don’t know what’s up with me, but if my friend Mark’s theory is correct, the change of seasons is hard on people who are generally sensitive to things, biochemically speaking. It wouldn’t surprise me. And it hasn’t helped that we went straight from 90 degrees to 50 with no stops at, say, 60 or 70.
Yesterday was good. I didn’t read, talk, or think about anything having to do with the publishing industry. I caught up on some shows (but not all – still haven’t watched Studio 60 On the Sunset Strip), lounged, did laundry, and I think I achieved immortality for one of my Sims.
Last night G. and I went out for dinner and then shopped a little at the Gateway. I tried on a bunch of clothes at Ann Taylor Loft, which has always been a good store for me (well, not always, but more so now that I weigh 35 lbs. less than I did ten years ago) because they have a lot of options in petite sizes. There were so many things I wanted to buy and on a different day I might have, but I’m not made of money and when I look at what I do in my actual life, there would be no occasion to wear most of these things. I learned a lesson last year after splurging on a bunch of pairs of shoes that I will probably only wear once. Damn you, What Not to Wear, for making me believe I could actually become a person who wears heels regularly! The fact is, I’m a tomboy who loves comfort—always have been and always will be—so really I should focus my limited spending dollars on finding a look that is comfortable and tomboy-ish without being sloppy, clothing that is well made and classic enough to last but still me instead of stuff that will look great hanging in my closet all season until I finally admit I’m not going to wear it, ever, and it goes to Good Will.
Happy Book Birthday to An Abundance of Katherines and Buried! Wow—those are two fantastic covers! John Green will be stopping by later this month as part of his blog tour, so keep your eyes peeled!
