Writing & Illustrating for Young Readers workshop

Okay! You know it is very unlike me to clutter your life with more than one post in a day, but I promised I would let you know about this the minute I knew more…

I’ll be teaching an intermediate/advanced novel workshop for the Writing & Illustrating for Young Readers conference here in Utah this summer. In the past, this has been held far away in Provo, but this year it has moved closer to Salt Lake and will be in Sandy, at the Waterford School.

The faculty is full of great local authors and illustrators who are nationally published and recognized: Ann Dee Ellis, Alane Ferguson, Emily Wing Smith, Bonny Becker, Kristyn Crow, Brandon Mull, and so many more. Mary Kole of Andrea Brown Literary Agency will be the agent in residence, and there will also be a big time editor.

Now, I gotta say. This is CHEAP as these things go and considering the caliber of the faculty. Less than $500 for a week. Which makes it super affordable for those in the area, and those coming from out of town won’t have much trouble finding affordable accommodation, because Utah is not an expensive place to visit.

Registration is open here, now. Most classes cap at around 15 so don’t dawdle.

Oh my goodness, I’m so excited! I’m not sure who to sign up with, though. I’ve taken three college creative writing classes, so would that mean I could take one of the advanced classes? But then again, the novel I’m bringing is Fantasy, so should I sign up for one of those? Regardless, I can’t wait!

@Debbie, Those are good questions. I would contact the conference through their web site for help figuring it out.

I’m in! A week at a children’s writing conferencing looks like paradise from where I’m sitting. I just finished Draft 1 of my first children’s book so I’m excited to work on it in your class.

I’ll be at the Calvin Festival of Faith and Writing too — do you think you will organize a meet-up there? I’d love to say hello over coffee or something.
