a multi-media presentation
I’m home! I did not get sick! Triumph. Many many thanks and hugs and kisses and high fives to everyone in Ohio and Tennessee who made my trip so much fun and did not infect me with a cold. I will always love you for that, and for other reasons.
I had the honor of doing another Book Notes piece over at Largehearted Boy, this time for Once Was Lost. Though I listen to tons of music while I write, it’s always hard to come up with the definitive playlist for a book, since I’m always discovering new music and rethinking old. But I tried. If you missed the Book Notes for Sweethearts, find it here.
And, yes, here is Episode 4 of the Video Tour Diary! Watch for a special appearance from the Joseph-Beth Books Cincinnati mascot, Bob.

I’m so glad you’re home! And that polka-dotted shirt in the video looks AMAZING on you.
Welcome back from your adventures…I want to hear all about it!

@Emily Wing Smith, Thanks! It is a dress, actually. My favorite dress. One day til your birthday, one day til your birthday…
sara, this is really off topic BUT yr recent travels reminded me of the upcoming tx book festival and my inner austin foodie COMPELS to ask you the following:
do you know where you’re eating in the ATX?
you’ll probably be a busy bee BUT i’m a big believer in the golden rule: thou shalt never let books get in the way of a good dinner/margarita. i’d love to show you some Austin awesomeness and i PROMISE i am not a creepy stalker. i can even provide you with references.
AND if you’re already super booked, i promise i won’t cry (too much), and i’d still love to send you foodie recs.
lemme know! at the risk of sounding like an awkward junior higher: sara zarr will you go out with me?!!

@poshdeluxe, Hey Posh – usually I have no idea what my actual schedule is going to be until a day or two before I leave, and usually there is little to no breathing room in there, so I always tell people not to count on anything. But, you never know, and I am always happy to take recs!
Sara: So glad you made it home w/out cold or flu! I can identify. Love your vloggie thing. I haven’t learned how to edit/do music yet. Also kudos to you for retaining enuf brains on the trip to take photos. I forget after 2 days.

@Sharon Creech, I could never figure out the video stuff until I got a Mac. iMovie has been relatively intuitive for me. Also: I have the same problem with taking more photos and video after the first day or so! Which is why all my pictures are from just a couple of the events.
(It gives me a thrill that you visit my blog – I remember hearing you speak at SCBWI years ago when I was but an unpublished neophyte, and you were so inspiring!)
Um, Idon’t really know if you remember me at all, but yeah. I already wrote my name up there, so I’m babbling. I just wanted to say thank you so much for coming up and talking to me. I hope I didn’t seem so fangirlish (for lack of a better word). As soon as I got in my dads car I sdreamed incoherent things at him. I then proceeded to tell everyone I know that I had meet this amazing author. So yeah. Babbling again.

@Mary…from Nashville, Mary, I TOTALLY remember you and your awesome purple glasses. Conjunction junction, viola, etc. You did not seem fangirlish. You played it reaalll cool. As far as I could ascertain, you were the only actual high school aged person there and wanted to say hi because I thought it was cool you were book festing without being dragged. Remember to watch for this book: THE SKY IS EVERYWHERE by Jandy Nelson. I think you will like.

@Mary, No, but my husband did, for grad school. He loved it!
“Just looking at it makes me sad…”
Hahaha BRILLIANT!

@Heather, I really loved it when I first got it, but after the novelty wore off it was like, oh, this isn’t so super terrific. I do like reading manuscripts on it, and classics. That’s about it.
Oh, right, that was a brilliant shot, that sad little Kindle on your sofa, charging up. I don’t know why it seems so funny in recollection, but it does. I have had a similar response to Kindle. It seemed so cool at first, but now it just sits over there on a shelf, so sad and lonely, an insult to my ‘real’ books breathing in vast numbers nearby.
Hi Sara – just wanted to say thanks again for your fabulous presentation – it was such an honor and pleasure to meet you! This link is up now on our school website – thought you might enjoy the kid’s version of your visit! ;) Keep writing – can’t wait to read your next one!
