but lately I see her ribbons and her bows have fallen from her curls

Some stuff:

Jennifer Weiner on the Importance of male writers vs. the perception of “women’s fiction” and how that is changing. (Thanks, E. Lockhart, for the link.)

I saw Wendy and Lucy yesterday. It stressed me out. A lot. And then it just…ended. I don’t know. This one has gotten such good buzz and some awards, but it didn’t feel right to me somehow. I also saw He’s Just Not That Into You and it made me wonder about people. Is that an accurate portrayal of dating life? Man, am I glad to be happily married. Also it reminded me of my continued disappointment in Scarlett Johanss0n whom I adored in Manny & Lo and Lost in Translation. And then she became a starlet or something. Which I guess she has the right to do, but it seems like she could have gone more in the Catherine Keener career direction, if she wanted. On the upside, I finally saw Penelope and thoroughly enjoyed it. I think this all somehow relates to the Weiner article, maybe.

Are you going to TLA? That’s the Texas Library Association’s annual conference. I’m going and I’m very excited to be on a panel with John Green, Melissa Marr,  and Lisa Klein. The panel is described thusly: “Authors featured on Tayshas reading lists chat informally about writing for an older YA audience.” I love informal-chatting-panels! That will be on 4/1 at 10:15. Hope to see you there. And then on my whirlwind tour of Not Utah, I’m going to straight to Rochester for the Teen Book Fest (Live!), which looks to be about as much fun as a bunch of authors can have, legally,  and it’s free, and if you are in the area you should definitely come.

Thanks again for all your great responses to the last post. Have a great day!

I will be at TLA! I’m a grad student in library science at UT Austin and have been waiting ALL year for it. Better than spring break!

I adore indy/artsy/whatever you wanna call em films. This weekend I finally watched “Rachel Getting Married” with my brother. My only quip is that sometimes those movies just randomly end. It’s like they just run out of film and stop. Penelope was fun! I thought Christina Ricci looked cute with the pig nose.

    Janssen – yay!
Adrienne, I will not hold you personally responsible if the weather is bad, I promise.
Natalie…that’s exactly how I felt about the ending of Wendy & Lucy. It was like…oh, it’s over? I really liked Rachel Getting Married.
