My copyedits are coming today. Probably in the next half-hour, if my publisher gets what they paid for. I’m ready with my sharpened pencils, coffee, water, music, and clean desk. While I wait:
- Emily Wing Smith’s Book Notes essay for The Way He Lived is up at Larghearted Boy. I like what she says about the Better Than Ezra song. I’ve always thought BTE captures what a typical contemporary YA novel would sound like.
- I am halfway through Andrew Auseon’s brand new book, Jo-Jo & the Fiendish Lot, and it. is so good. When I read the plot, I didn’t really think it would be my thing, but as I read I’m remembering why I liked Funny Little Monkey so much. Andrew just writes with a ton of soul. Read my interview with Andrew from awhile back, if you’re interested.
- Taxes. Kind of suck. Or blow. Or something. It’s hard not to feel sometimes that I’m just working to pay taxes, but then I sit down and do the math and I know that’s not really true. Still!
- Recent iTunes downloads I’m enjoying: Sean Hayes’ Alabama Chicken (not Just Jack SH, different SH), The New Pornographer’s Challenger, and Metro Station’s song “Shake It”, which I can hear on the radio like 20 times a day but I still like it and wanted it for my gym mix.
- I watched (or am halfway through now) The Black Stallion, for the first time since 1979. I’d forgotten how incredibly beautiful the first 45 minutes of that movie are. Hardly any dialog. Amazing emotion, imagery, music.
- If you’re a writer and haven’t added the Dystel & Goderich blog to your reader yet, you should! Today, Miriam Goderich makes an optimistic proclamation.
Envelope still not here. 12 minutes to go.
